2013 Koenigsegg Agera R

Exterior and Interior

2.
Koenigsegg didn’t make any significant changes to the car’s exterior and we can absolutely see why. The Agera R is already an amazing vehicle. The only changes Koenigsegg made was the addition of the world’s first hollow, one piece, super light carbon fiber wheel, using a proprietary method developed by Koenigsegg named Aircore Technology. The new wheels are also one piece hollow carbon with the only metal part being the tire valve. This new system will make the wheels about 44 lbs lighter.
The Agera R still comes with its usual dynamic rear wing that uses the pressure of the wind created at high speeds to force the wing downward and create wind resistance. Koenigsegg also added a new, lighter rear exhaust section which improves the performance of the rear diffuser. New front/side winglets provide 20kg more downforce at 155 mph as well as reduced drag.

Engine

While there weren’t any significant changes on the exterior, under the hood is a totally different story. The supercar’s new in-house developed 5.0-liter V8 with twin turbos is the first in the world to use nano-surfaced cylinder sleeves, from ANS, for reduced friction and fuel consumption. A new in-house developed engine management system provides added functionality and ensures that the car meets all OBD II regulations.
The new Agera R now develops a total of 1140 HP and the rev limiter has been raised from 7250rpm to 7500rpm.
The supercar is also equipped with a new unique Triplex suspension developed in cooperation with Swedish shock manufacturer Öhlins Racing. KES (Koenigsegg Electronic Stability) is now offered as a standard feature.

Competition

The Koenigsegg Agera R comes as a direct response to Bugatti’s Veyron Super Sport - a supercar that has already recorded a top speed of 267 mph. Next to the impressive top speed, the Veyron SS is powered by an 8.0-liter, 16-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 1183 HP.
However, we still have to consider that SSC is preparing to come out with their Tuatara supercar. The car is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers a total of 1350 HP and sprints from 0 to 60 mph in around 2.8 seconds. Top speed has also been reported at 275 mph.
